Cedar Winds Farm was started by Priscilla Barber whose family dates back into the 1930's with American Saddlebreds when her grandmother Minta and namesake Priscilla owned and rode Saddlebreds in Madison Wisconson. Pris' love for the breed began at age 3 and has not abated. Her children Melinda , Pierce, and Nicholas all rode and showed. Pris purchased Regal's Pride in 1972 and hasn't looked back. The love of American Saddlebred Horses and horses in general continues with Melinda who does most of the showing today.
Cedar Winds was established in Tonagnoxie Kansas in 1978. The breeding program began with mares by Colonel Boyle, Royal Rex Sea, Barrymore Rex Peavine, and Courageous Admiral. Sires used during those year included Sultan's Americana, Symbol Sensation, Fleet Admiral's Commodore among others.
In 1983 Cedar Winds Farm relocated to Carlisle PA . Melinda Barber and her horses won top awards thru American Saddlebred Horse Association, American Show Horse Association, Pennsylvania Saddlebred Horse Association and Saddle and Bridle Magazine. We competed in top shows throughout the Mid Atlantic and at the Kentucky State Fair with Beau's Lucky Shamrock, Inheritress, Regal's Pride, Replay, Cherokee Event, Vanity's Carmelita, Americana's Easter Evening, Sugar Hollow Squire aka Simply Southern, Stonewall's Starglitter. Watch Out, Watch Out for Me Too, Commander's Kansa Chieftan, Saturday Nite Out, Society's Golden Derby and Roses So Red.
In most cases our horses were trained at home but Melinda trained under John Whalen and Jimmy Orphanos in her last years in Equitation and now has a few prospects in training with Bill Heizer in Staunton, VA.
